Rule of Odds
The Rule of Odds states that artwork is more visually appealing when there are an odd number of objects.
The Rule of Odds is highly effective at the number 3. As the odd number increases, the effect diminishes.
The Rule of Odds works because it keeps the eyes moving across the composition. If there is an even number of objects (subjects) in the composition, the brain tends to pair them up and stop moving.
